Theater buildings occupy a special place in Sicily's rich cultural landscape. In cooperation with Bildarchiv Foto Marburg, two comprehensive photo campaigns took place in 2019 documenting many of Sicily's theaters, both ancient and contemporary. Christian Stein of Foto Marburg photographed the buildings scattered across the island; Roberto Sigismondi took the photographs of Palermo's theaters on behalf of the Bibliotheca Hertziana's photographic collection. The photographs were included in the volume published in 2020 by Susanne Grötz, Ursula Quecke, and Siegfried Albrecht ("Theater in Sizilien", Jonas Verlag Weimar). The abundance and diversity of theater buildings, from the metropolitan and noble Politeama in Palermo to the puppet theater in Catania, made it a thoroughly interesting cultural- and art-historical campaign.
